I.

a heart raised on romance — flushed pink and petal soft // all laughter — whimsy — tenderness envisioned — daydreams cradled — collated // all willowy wisps of promise — of plenty — of pleasure // so much for lighthearted yearning // so much for sweet nothings // so much for the shimmering haze // seared to nothing by unrelenting summer

II.

a heart bruised by loss — now withered, now worn // but still lushly scented — enriched in essence — crushed to refinement // full of sought-after softness — hard-won, lingering // the gentleness i stayed for

III.

a heart healing slow — maze-rooted and twined, entwining //  strengthened in the darkling depths — in the here, now, this —  in the you, me, us —  in the truth unflinching, uncruel — in the unbreaking but not unbending — in the loving without vanishing

IV.

a heart upheld ( for this is how i keep myself ) //  a support, strong but supple — earth, turned over, tilled — space cleared and guarded — sun and shade in equal measure, dappled // this is how i grow — skyward, sunward — solid and sound — bold and beaming

V.

this is how i become my own favorite story — by living, by dreaming — by seeking and by finding // this is how i hold my heart // this is how it healed
