A WRITER'S YEAR IN REVIEW

29/12/2021

It has been...a year. Apparently. As this tumblr post put it:
Picture
So anyway, it's December and 2022 is around the corner, which means it's time for my year in review! (Shoutout to Hyba for reminding me this is a thing I can do lol).

I did something similar last year and it was fun to see how much I accomplished or what changes occurred that I just plum forgot about, because I have brain like swiss cheese (full of holes).

WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, HERE'S MY YEAR IN REVIEW!

HEH THAT RHYMED
✧.* January
  • wrote nearly 150k words of fanfiction and not much else
✧.* February
  • wrote 'Condos of the Damned', a prompt fill
✧.*  March - May
  • decided to rewrite Rivener without making major changes to the plot
  • abandoned that attempt and created a different plot with the same characters and world
  • renamed Chimken Tendies to Glitch and decide to link it to Rivener
  • did a freewriting poem half based on a dream
✧.* June
  • shared a world-building post on the eponymous Chronicles of Mourra
  • shared some world- and plot-building for CofM, refining Nur's backstory, the role Halah's grandfather plays in the story, coming up with a prophecy, and better clarifying the ways in which Nur and Qusaiy and Nur and Sirin are mirrors and foils for each other
  • shared the details of the revamped version of Rivener, in which Wren is much more of an antihero
  • shared how I'm linking Rivener 2.0 with Glitch and the new scifi elements I'm incorporating
  • wrote a poem about hope
✧.* July
  • began writing Rivener 2.0
  • began writing Glitch
  • wrote more of CofM
  • sent out a few newsletters
  • printed Rivener 1.0
✧.* August - September
  • updated the landing page for CofM to reflect plot changes
  • revamped Halah, CofM's main character, to be more dynamic
  • adjusted world-building in Rivener 2.0, which influenced characterization
  • picked up Bo & Eve again and changed some of the plot and world-building, decided to only portray Eve's POV
✧.* October
  • wrote fourteen prompt fills for Fictober, and one of them featured the characters from Glitch
✧.* November
  • revamped this website
  • made an account on Royal Road (which has since been deleted)
  • updated the cover for The Peacock, The Crown, and the River
  • created a cover and landing page for Glitch, as well as a new summary
  • updated the cover of Bo & Eve
  • closed my podcast for the forseeable future
  • created flashcards for CofM's plot and decided one of my characters needed to die
  • became a paid writer for a blog and published my first post!
✧.* December
  • wrote this poem about ghosts and the sea
  • published my second paid blog post and contributed to a third
  • wrote a continuation for Susan Pevensie's story that became a crossover with Lord of the Rings
  • came up with a new story idea which will be an isekai novel
  • created a landing page for all my story concepts, because otherwise I will completely forget about them
  • put Bo & Eve on hiatus (again)
  • decided to make my isekai novel double as an Alice in Wonderland retelling
  • created a landing page for the aforementioned new wip Wonderland
  • wrote 12k of the latest version of CofM and finally, finally felt like I had the right beginning. I can actually envision the book as a whole now, and I feel like it's only a matter of typing it all up. I'm aiming for it to be completed by December 2022!

Shockingly it's been a year where I did manage to get a lot done, creatively? It's like my brain decided to have December make up for the entirety of 2021. Feels like a miracle, to be honest.

How was your year? Comment below and let me know so I can applaud you! Life is hard but there you are, living, and living as best as you can. Go you! Go us!

And as ever, happy reading and writing! See you in 2022!

Wow, you've accomplished so much mashaAllah!! This is awesome! I'm especially in awe of December; so many things happened in that month - change was in the air as we moved into 2022!
